How To Make Online Media Into A Living - Apple Phone Show

526555509_221f54ab65_m.jpg

I do VERY few me too or link back posts here. I try to write as much original content as I can. But once in a while, I see something so good, it surpasses any attempt I’d make to say the same thing. In those cases, I link. And I do so proudly today to a piece written by Chris Brogan on his new media blog.

If you’re serious about getting into this industry and making a living, take Chris’ advice to heart. I agree with him 100% and appreciate, not only what he said, but the way he said it.

His post is called “Media Makers Next Steps.”

Association of Podcasters & Online Media Producers - UPDATE

apomp.jpg

Here’s a brief update on our work with the Association of Podcasters & Online Media Producers. (A working title.)

In the next few days, we’ll post a survey for the podcasting and new media community to consider. This survey will help us to identify how things should move forward.

We’ve attracted 77 people who want to join the APOMP and that’s just by mentioning it here on this blog. We’ve not issued any news releases, advertised or started any sort of membership drive. In fact we’ve turned down press interviews, because we need to know more about what you think, before we start talking to the public at large.

Obviously, there’s a great deal of interest. But we’re still hopeful that we can find a way to work with the ADM. So this survey will be our final attempt to accomplish that goal. We’ll share the results with ADM and anyone else who wants them. Depending on what we see next, we’ll start to move full speed ahead.

If you want to be involved in our effort, there are two things you can do. 1) Send an email with your contact information to info@podcastingtricks.com. 2) Fill out our survey once we post it and link to it, so we can get as much information together as possible.

Thanks for your interest and early support of Association of Podcasters & Online Media Producers. (or whatever we ALL decide to name it!”)

It’s All Going Online - OnlineMediaTips.com

There’s reason to celebrate being in the online media business - the rest of the world is starting to come see us!

A batch of recent surveys say so.

The Consumer Electronics Association says that more than 70% of homes have access to broadband and more than 50% of those homes are taking advantage of that access.

Interpret says the iPhone has had a halo effect on the mobile media market.

Yankee Group
says the transformation of the internet from a response platform to a brand medium will do more to attract and secure larger budgets from brand advertising.

Pew says that more than 57% of people have watched online video.

Burst Media says online is the way to reach college students and that they have money to spend.

So the audience is certainly coming our way. That means the advertisers aren’t far behind. Are we ready?

Blogworld & New Media Expo - OnlineMediaTips.com

Featured Speaker at BlogWorld Expo 2007 Expo

Just a quick reminder that in addition to PME, I’ll be at Blogworld & New Media Expo in Las Vegas this year. My pals Leo Laporte, Lee Gibbons, Alex Lindsay and others will be joining in to help share our experiences with podcasts, online video, digital audio and more.

We don’t get any referral money or anything like that for making the recommendation, but you can save up to 50% if you register by Aug 3, and up to 25% by Oct 16.

See you there.

A Great Podcast and Some Tips - OnlineMediaTips.com

FF2_intro_recent.png
Several months ago, I consulted with a fellow named Mike Seymour, who has a funny accent and a desire to create a great podcast.

I just heard from Mike and his show, www.fxguide.com is the sort of quality that I am looking for from people who want to get serious.

It’s great to be able to help someone. It’s even better when they listen and respond to the advice.

In an email to me, Mike shared with me, some of the advice I gave him that he found helpful. I’ll list that here in the hopes it helps someone else.

- we aim to have a schedule and stick to it
- we try and cross promote and promo future interviews
- our mics are standardised, and we have dramatically improved our “phone” interviews quality via Skype
- no milk, coffee etc  - only water prior to air
- we try and think about the personality of each interview/host
- we have several programs in place to connect to our audience from blogs to forums
- we keep the interview and segments shorter and tighter
- we now do regular internal reviews and critical reviews
- we ignore the negative and just move on
Thanks Mike! And if you want to see a great podcast, check out FXGUIDE.
